US Army Tests Autonomous Railcar

1 source · first reported 1h ago

via Defence Blog

The US Army has tested a self-driving railcar built by Intramotev, a St. Louis startup, to move military cargo at a major training exercise. The railcar, called TugVolt, is an autonomous battery-electric vehicle that was operated by soldiers. The demonstration used actual military cargo, rather than simulated loads, and was announced by Intramotev on June 24, 2026.

Why it matters

The successful test of the autonomous railcar could enhance the Army's logistics capabilities and improve the efficiency of military cargo transportation. This technology has the potential to reduce labor costs and increase safety in military operations.
