The Australian Government has signed a contract worth A$72m ($50m) with Rheinmetall NIOA Munitions to set up a new forging capability in Maryborough, Queensland, to manufacture large calibre ammunition for the Australian Defence Force.
This deal reduces Australia's dependence on foreign ammunition supply chains for critical artillery munitions used across its ground combat platforms.
