The Air Combat Electronics Program Office used the Middle Tier of Acquisition Rapid Prototype approach and an Other Transaction Authority contract to design and verify a fully integrated system in three years. The production contract was awarded in months, not years. This approach focused on warfighters' needs and delivered cutting-edge capability.
