Canada has selected Germany's ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) to build its new submarine fleet, consisting of up to 12 vessels. The new fleet will be based on the Type 212CD design, currently under production for Germany and Norway. This procurement is one of Canada's biggest-ever defense buys and marks a major shift toward closer military cooperation with European allies.
